Tee-time strategy at Pebble Beach is shaped more by the clock and the calendar than almost anywhere else on the California coast. Morning fog and afternoon wind off Carmel Bay create two very different rounds on the same day, and that dynamic shifts significantly by season. In the peak summer and fall months, an afternoon tee time is often perfectly playable. From November through April, you'll almost always want to be on the first tee early, before marine weather tightens its grip.
Temperatures here are remarkably compressed — the hottest average high is just 67°F in September, while January lows sit at 47°F. That narrow range means temperature rarely disqualifies a round outright. With peak winds averaging 12.4 mph in February and March, and March logging 14 precip days, those two variables are what actually determine whether you're playing golf or watching it from the clubhouse — and they reward golfers who plan their tee times accordingly.
March is the wettest month on the calendar at 14 precip days, and winds average 12.4 mph — tied for the year's highest alongside February. April drops to 7 precip days and 12.3 mph winds, which is an improvement, but still firmly in 'book the earliest slot available' territory. By May, precip days fall to 6 and wind eases to 11.7 mph, giving late-spring visitors the best spring conditions by a clear margin.
July and August each average just 1 precip day, and winds drop to 9.9 and 9.6 mph respectively — the calmest stretch of the year.
