Los Angeles has a Mediterranean climate with mild year-round temperatures. Marine layer can linger into mid-morning near the coast, while inland courses warm faster. Santa Ana winds in fall can bring gusty, dry conditions. Spring and fall typically offer the steadiest playability.
Where you play in Los Angeles shapes the tee-time decision as much as when. Coastal and west-side courses spend June through August under marine layer until 9 or 10 a.m., which can make a 7 a.m. slot feel like a gray, damp slog. Inland courses in the San Gabriel Valley and the Inland Empire burn that overcast off faster, giving you a cleaner read on conditions from the opening tee.
Temperature is the other variable. Summer highs hit 88–90°F in July and August, which pushes serious golfers toward early morning slots to dodge the heat. Winter and spring, by contrast, are forgiving enough that a 10 a.m. or even noon start rarely costs you comfort.
April and May average highs of 76°F sit squarely in the ideal 60–80°F range; a 10 a.m. start still falls within the ideal temperature band. The catch: April is the windiest month on record at 11.9 mph average peak wind, just brushing above the calm threshold. Precip days drop sharply from March's 10 down to 4 in April and 5 in May, so rain rarely forces a cancellation.
July and August are the driest months — just 1 precip day each — so weather cancellations are essentially off the table. But August highs average 90°F, the hottest of the year, and even July runs 88°F, making afternoon rounds genuinely uncomfortable. On inland courses where there's no marine layer to buffer morning heat, the sun is already working against you by the time you reach the back nine — high afternoon temps make continuing into the afternoon increasingly punishing.
September and October show low precip and cooling temps, but Santa Ana events can override those averages. April and May match them for temperature comfort at 76°F highs, with precip dropping to 4–5 days, though April's 11.9 mph average peak wind is the year's highest, so morning slots give a slight edge before afternoon breezes build.

The hourly forecast is your best tool — conditions can shift within a few hours, especially on courses in the foothills or east of downtown.
